To me it feels like just yesterday i gave birth to this amazing little thing but as the days get shorter and her birthday approaches, it hits me more and more that i no longer have a baby. But in the pitch of reminiscing about my little girl i though ill put together a newborn must have list. As a first time mom i dealt with the what must i buy ides
lol. Such as how much clothes is Too much clothes, how many diapers I'll need and even if to fall for unneeded goodies. As a first time mom i couldn't step into a store with out jumping at the cute dress and the full racks of hair bows. But we all know we have to pace our sleeves, so this is what i did. I chose to not buy any thing before my baby shower
which was hard of course. so i sat down and did my registry!
Starting with the most important item diapers of course. When walking into the world of diapers you have billions of choices. Do i go the disposable route or do i go the cloth diaper route? A very important question to start with which all depends on your personal preference, since i don't have easy access to a washer dryer i chose disposable. Then after you've answered that question you have to find out which brand would fit you best, do you do Huggins, pampers, luvs and etc. After a long debate we chose pampers.
Now on to clothes we all wonder how much clothes does my newborn really need. We didn't really have the answer to that so we went on a shopping spree and ended up not using all of it lol. While the answer to this question mostly depends on the season your child was born and where you live I've put together a list of some basics. As new yorkers our weather changes ALOT so heres what we mainly used.
Youll need
- 4-5 One pieces p.j (they are awesome for being at home and sleeping they keep they're feet warm.
- 2-3 cute pant and shirt outfits ( Lots of people will be visiting and taking photos)
- 6 long sleeve shirts with a cut where you can over baby hands( babies love garbing their faces and this prevents that)
- A warm sweater (depends of season)
- 8 pairs of socks (they are useful both for hand and feet)
I'm not sure if this goes for all over the world but here in the United States no baby is allowed out of the hospital with out a car seat. Now with car seats the first thing you'll need to check is the expiration date. Yes like food car seats to expire, so make sure to check that before buying or using one. Next make sure your car seat is correctly places in your car, i suggest taking it to your local fire department so they can help you. Choosing one depends on which you like we went with a Graco.
Now that youve done that you have to decide on if you will be breast feeding or bottle feeding. I'm not much help on bottle topic since we've never used one but on breast feeding i am. Make sure you buy plenty breast pad and nipple ointment.
Last but not least youll need a warm blanket, your baby doesn't produce much heat on his own so hell need to be swaddled most of the time at least the first month.
I hope this helped you !
Sincerely, Yoskatery.
